What's a Buckaroo?
Buckaroo is the anglicized version of the Spanish word for cowboy, "vaquero," that has historically been used in California. We use it here as a reference to the original cowboys who rode into the Bowl on horseback during the early Fiesta days. (It also refers to Bucks for the Bowl, naturally!)
"Buckaroos at the Bowl" harks back to those early days while looking forward to a new era at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
This is an opportunity to have one last community event on the old stage before the long-awaited restoration and improvements begin and the new stage is built. We will feature long-time residents telling stories about the early days at the Bowl, costumed riders, historical photos and artifacts from local collections and museums, a wonderful array of music provided by local talent, sumptuous Mexican appetizers and Western BBQ donated by area restaurants and service clubs, backstage tours, drinks, dancing, and general merrymaking in honor of the Bowl and its rich history.
